A FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME was organized from 29/06/2017 – 30/06-2017 at FIREBIRD INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH IN MANAGEMENT. This was a two day faculty development programme, where various related sub-topics were discussed in detail by eminent educationalist and a very beneficial academic environment was experienced by the participants. The major focus of the FDP is on upgrading the teaching, training and communication skills for the development of faculty members. It intends to provide opportunities for the faculty members to renew their intellectual vitality and further their professional growth. The programme also aims at equipping teachers with skills and knowledge in the field of Leadership and Attitude, Communication, The Ideal Teacher and Relationship Management. These are very essential for inculcating learning values in students and guiding and monitoring their progress towards their career.
The FDP was attended by 24 participants from the faculty members of Science and Humanities (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English).
The trainer Mr. James Vineeth has delivered an interactive lecture on “Leadership” for future integrated of skills and knowledge. In the session participants got the knowledge about the different levels of leadership and responsibilities with some practical applications. He delivered three levels of leadership like self leadership, leading the followers and leading the leaders and also the teachers were gained with the knowledge of perception for 3D’s success like dare, differ and dream.
This engaging session utilises discussion, videos, examples, role-play, experiential exercises and motivational comments. Its structure and flow encourage participation and accountability while building leadership skills and confidence. The significant key points covered with many subjects like,

• Situational performance management
• communicating and connecting with colleagues
• powerful feedback
• leading difficult conversations
• listening skills
The session has pointed about “Communication” and focused on virtues to be qualified teachers. The session aimed at providing every teacher with an in-depth understanding of their strengths and areas of improvement so as to develop them in to effective communicator. This allows the teachers to develop an awareness of the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary to become an effective teacher. He also discussed about how to understand the applications of right tools and techniques while teaching a class. The main objectives are,
• LSRW (Listening, speaking, reading and writing)
• Vocabulary, Eye contact and body language
• Stress, pause and builders
• MTI (mother tongue influence)
Team work is very essential while teaching the communication, to build a team it is important to ignore the 5 types of viruses such as,
• Lack of Trust
• Fear of Conflict
• Lack of Commitment
• Inattention to Result
On second day the session 3 has organized by the trainer Prof. S. Ganesan. There were exchange of ideas on “Being the Teacher”. It was also discussed about the personal traits to be a qualified teacher such as,
• Exemplary personal qualities
• Disciplined to work
• Good Communication
• Propagate truth
• Bright personality
• Moral courage
• Sound memory
• Curiosity and thirst for knowledge
Also, he delivered his valuable thoughts on professional traits to b a qualified teacher like,
• Proper mindset
• Effective classroom management skill
• Belief in mutual trust
• Ability to strike a positive relationship with students
• Ability to identify latent skills and motivate
• Inspirational and serving as a role model
• Continuous improvement of the process
Excellent motivation was received by the mentor, he also distributed the ideas of being “The Ideal Teacher” under that, contemporary challenges, teacher’s hurdles, be passionate and facets of the profession has been explained. Addition to those, he also extended about Bloom’s Taxonomy and Outcome Based Education.
The trainer Mr. James Vineeth brought about plethora of information with “Relationship”. In that, he expressed about two types of communication such as positive communication and responsible communication. He also discussed about the Rapport building between two or more people. At the end it was uttered with Transaction Analysis.
At the end of the lecture, Mr.James Vineeth briefly touched upon the important points mentioned by him during the lecture and resolved the queries of the teachers.
Finally participants were asked to share their experience and learning of the whole programme. The program was concluded with happy note from everyone. The certificates were distributed and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. M.S Balamurugan, Head of the Department, science and Humanities.
Overall the lecture was very informative and all the members benefited from it.
