The Department of Petrochemical Engineering, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Pichanur, Coimbatore inaugurated its association, PEACE (Petrochemical Engineers Association for Country Empowerment), for the current academic year on 2nd September 2015.
Prof. Dr. M. Thirumarimurugan, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, CIT Coimbatore inaugurated the association function. He predicted an expansion of the scope for Petrochemical Engineering profession and impressed the audience with national and global salary statistics. For step-wise climbing up in their professional career, he stressed the students to acquire not only the technical expertise in their academics but also to develop communication skills, software skills as well as attitude enriched with leadership competence.
He advised the students by becoming institutional and student members of IIChE (Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers) they can participate easily in national level conferences / seminars / symposia / workshops. Presenting papers in such national level events will help them in achieving recognition in academic circles, he further added.
Dr. V. M. Sivakumar from Department of Chemical Engineering, CIT Coimbatore presented an over view of Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineering. He elaborated some topics such as petroleum & natural gas formation, upstream & downstream processing, exploration; appraisal; production phase decommissioning phase; abandonment phase; environmental aspects, off-shore & on-shore structural designs, global petro economy & manpower requirements etc. Opportunities and scope for Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineers in these areas are expanding, he concluded.
Dr. G. Ramesh, Principal, earlier in his presidential address advised the students to be time conscience and use it in developmental activities. Prof. N. Krisnaswamy, Dean of Petroleum & Petrochemical Engineering welcomed the gathering and Dr. R. Paramasivam, Head of Petrochemical Engineering Department introduced the office bearers and explained the activities of the association. The student president Mr. M. Mohamed Fazith expressed vote of thanks and the function was concluded with national anthem.
