REPORT ON VALUE ADDED COURSE “PRINCIPLES OF ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY SURVEY AND ITS APPLICATIONS IN OIL & GAS EXPLORATION TO IDENTIFY THE SUBSURFACE LITHOLOGY, POROSITY AND PERMEABILITY”
Department of Petroleum Engineering conducted a value added course for III year students on 14.03.2017. APEX PETRO TECH, Bangalore conducted the course.
Students were organized and given introduction regarding Resistivity analysis as per the itinerary. With the knowledge gathered in the introduction session, registered students reached the location (PERUR LAKE) planned for field survey by 11.00 a.m.
Students were given instructions about the equipments used for resistivity analysis and safety measures were strictly enforced while taking real time data. Students had a very useful practical session where they took real time resistance data from the field. Their interaction with the trainers with practical doubts gave them an opportunity to learn and improve their knowledge.
With the datasheets filled with data taken in the location, students returned back to college by 4.p.m. They were seated in Computer Lab – 2 where the computers were already installed with the software for data interpretation. In this regard we thank our institution for permitting to install the software (original version) by APEX PETRO TECH for students use. Data interpretation was really useful to students where they came to know the resistance signals obtained from diversified subsurface barriers. The location being rich in organic matters gave the students an intense contour mapping about the subsurface. Students had the advantage of using original software in their laptops for future use. The session ended up after the students got thorough knowledge about the resistivity analysis.
