The Departments of Food Technology and Petroleum Engineering in association with R&D Cell have organized a one day workshop on “R&D Proposals to National and International Funding for Researchers – Approach & Preparation” on 30.11.2017 at 10.00 a.m at JCT CET Seminar Hall. Dr. R. Govindarajan (HOD/Food Technology) and Mr. G. Mahendran (Associate Professor/Petroleum Engineering) coordinated the workshop. On this occasion, Dr.G.Arthanareeswaran, Associate Professor, Dept of Chemical Engineering, NIT Tiruchirappalli has chaired as the chief guest.
The Workshop started with the prayer song followed with welcome address by Prof. N. Krishnaswamy, Dean (PCE/PE/FT) and he forecasted the research needs and its quick implementation to make institutional progress. Then Dr. G. Ramesh, Principal, in his presidential address stressed the importance of research for the future development of the institution. Also, he suggested that the keynote lecture will be an eye opening session for initiating the research and insisted all faculties to apply for the funded project. Dr. R. Paramasivam, Head (R&D) has explained the initiatives taken by the R&D cell about the research activities of academic departments and the institute. Dr. R. Govindarajan, HoD/FT presented the profile of the chief guest highlighting his achievements, awards received, national and International research collaborations and countries visited.
The chief guest, Dr. G. Arthanareeswaran, in his impressive keynote address explained about the faculty’s duties in institution and universities, the types of grants available and research needs. Further, he insisted to apply for the grant at the right stage with the screened ideas, provided general grant writing tips and numerous international and national funding resources available and its scope and significance. He made awareness among women faculty to apply for women scientist fellowships and the project supports by special funding schemes for women. Also, he shared research experiences, review committees, total budget and possible reasons for the failure of the proposed projects. He interacted with audience to clarify doubts about funding agencies, possible success rate of proposals, contacting professors of universities / research centers for research as well as postdoctoral work.
Mr. G. Mahendran (ASP and R&D Coordinator / PE) delivered vote of thanks and the workshop concluded with the national anthem.
