  • IIChE Students Chapter

The students are encouraged to present their project ideas in annual CHEMCON Conferences organized by Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers. Their Project proposals are guided by eminent professors of the petrochemical engineering.

  • UPDATED PROCESS CONTROL AND SIMULATION LAB

The department has sophisticated process control and dynamics lab where controllers for temperature, pressure, flow and level are available with manual and auto operations, Student can use the facilities for designing their work parameters.

  • FUEL TESTING CENTRE

The department is equipped with Carl-fisher Titrater, Bomb Calorimeter, Junkers Calorimeter, Orsat apparatus, UV Spectro photo meters, BOD Incubators, Dean and Strake apparatus, Water analyser and many other fuel testing instruments. The department is fully equipped with analytical methods for giving testing services to needy industries.

  • PILOT PLANTS

Semi commercials process equipments like Bubble cap column, Packed Distillation Unit, Steam Distillation Unit and Simple Distillation setup are available for consultancy work.

  • CHEMICAL REACTIONS ENGINEERING LAB

Chemical Reactors viz, Batch Reactors, Semi-Batch Reactors, Fluidized Bed Reactors, Packed Bed Reactors, Sonor Reactors and Plug Flow Reactors are available to study the reaction kinetics and feasibility of the reactions. Avery accurate control of flow rates inside the reactors are made possible by pneumatic flow control and Micro rota-meters. These equipments are used for regular labs and for studying newer product synthesis.

  • RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT LAB

A research and development labs with basic equipments like Vacuum drier, Muffle furnace, required glassware, Distillation assembles, Heating mantles, Magnetic stirrer come heater, pH meters, Potentio-meters, Temperature measuring devices like thermocouples and Chemicals are available for conducting research work by students and staffs.

  • PEACE (Petrochemical Engineering Association for Country Empowerment)

PEACE provides a platforms for staffs and students to exchange their views and knowledge on emerging trends in the energy sectors by conducting guest lectures, group discussions and symposiums.

Research and Development – Department of Petrochemical Engineering

A waste material (Dolochar) from sponge Iron plants can be converted into useful value added products by using single step pyrolysis process

The final year students from Petrochemical Engineering Department of JCT COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY COIMBATORE have developed a novel technique to convert the dolochar into activated carbon which can be effectively utilized as an adsorbant for several industrial purposes. Several tons of waste material emanating from Sponge Iron industries can be adopted to generate wealth from waste by using this method.
