Name of the subject : Construction Materials and Construction Practice
Date & Day : 1.9.2018 & SATURDAY
No. Of Students : 30 Students
Name of the Faculties
:Introduction
RSK Brick Manufacturing Unit in located near Chinnathadagam village in Coimbatore district. Our Polytechnic College second year Civil Engineering students and Staff members visited the brick manufacturing unit at 12.00. PM by College bus.
The Various Processes is involved in the manufacturing of bricks.
Preparation of Clay:
The raw materials used were fine sand and soil materials. Sometimes the brick earth is collected from outside the Manufacturing unit.
Moulding:
Here the manufacturing unit used Plastic clay machine or Wire cut brick moulding method. The bricks are cut by wire and spacing between two wires equal to the thickness of bricks. This brick manufactures 40,000 numbers of bricks per day.
Drying:
Brick unit consists of arranging the wet bricks in many rows on their edges. A little space for circulation of air is kept for each brick. A portable temporary place is provided to protect the bricks from rain. Drying duration for the bricks is taken 2 to 5 days. It is mainly depending upon the weathering agencies.
Burning Process:
We saw the place where the bricks were burnt, the chimney as well as the casting of bricks from the mixture of raw materials.
The aims of burning bricks are as follows
The materials used for burning of bricks are coal, lignite as well as waste materials of paddy and groundnuts. The sand they used for particular type which was suitable for a brick. First of all the raw materials were mixed in proportions, kept in front of sun for drying for two days and then applying for burning at 500 degree Celsius for 2 days and then kept for cooling for about 15 days. Functions of each chamber contains loading, during, preheating, burning, cooling and unloading at the same time. There were around 100 skilled workers in company.
Conclusion:
This visit was really useful for learning practical knowledge and informative for Civil Engineering team to know about manufacturing of bricks and a large scale industrial planning.
