The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at JCTCET, Coimbatore, organized an alumni talk on 18th April 2025 at 4pm by Mr. Muthukumar, a distinguished alumnus from the 2010-2014 batch. He is currently working as a Technical Lead in Embedded Software Development at HCL Tech. The primary objective of the talk was to provide students with insights into the industry, share practical knowledge, and offer guidance on career development in the field of embedded systems.
His talk focused on the following key areas:
• Industry Trends in Embedded Systems: Discussed the latest trends in embedded software development, including the increasing demand for IoT devices, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and advancements in hardware platforms. He emphasized the growing importance of skills in areas like connectivity, security, and low-power design.
• Essential Skills for Embedded Software Development: He highlighted the crucial skills required for a successful career in embedded systems, such as proficiency in programming languages (C, C++), knowledge of microcontrollers and microprocessors, understanding of hardware-software interaction, and familiarity with debugging tools. He also stressed the significance of soft skills like problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.
• Career Path and Opportunities: He has shared his own career journey, providing valuable insights into the various roles and opportunities available in the embedded systems industry. He offered advice on how students can prepare for internships and job placements, including resume building, interview skills, and networking strategies.
