About the Department

The Department of Civil Engineering is started in the year 2009-2010. It has been started with the objective to create outstanding engineers, with advanced teaching and learning aids for the students. The department has well qualified faculty members and excellent laboratory facilities. The undergraduate program imparts students to master over the field of Civil Engineering besides knowledge of recent trends and development to shine as a successful civil engineer. Students gain practical experience from field visits to the construction sites, dams and irrigation structures, etc. The department ranges a postgraduate program in order to provide wide knowledge on the core of Structural Engineering. Students gain training in their field of study through internships.

Job Opportunities

Civil engineers are employed in the public and private sectors in large numbers in all branches of design, construction, and maintenance of roads, highways, bridges, dams, canals, docks, airports, and housing complexes and in environment management etc. Civil engineers also make a career in quality testing laboratories, join military and defense services, or work as consultants. The career opens a lot of opportunities in numerous government departments. Civil engineers are employed in all major construction projects carried out by central and state government agencies.

There are equally good opportunities in the private sector for civil engineers. A major opening for qualified civil engineers is also in armed forces where they can make vital contribution to the protection of the country. Last but not the least you can set up your own engineering consultancy.

Programme Outcomes:

• Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
• Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
• Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
• Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
• Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
• The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
• Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
