The Department of Food Technology at JCT College of Engineering and Technology successfully organized a three-day Certification Course on “FoSTaC, HACCP & ISO 22000:2018” from 23rd to 25th October 2025 at the Seminar Hall. The program aimed to enhance students’ professional competence in Food Safety Management Systems, HACCP implementation, and ISO certification standards, bridging the gap between academic learning and industrial practices.
The training sessions were conducted by Mr. James Mathai, Managing Director of FHEMS, a globally certified trainer with over 40 years of expertise in Food Safety, HSE, and Quality Assurance. He is an FSSAI/FoSTaC approved Trainer and Assessor, and an IRCA-certified Lead Auditor for various ISO standards.
The program commenced with a welcome address and the lighting of the lamp ceremony, symbolizing knowledge and wisdom. The event was graced by the presence and guidance of Dr. P. Balamurugan, Head of the Department of Food Technology, who emphasized the importance of professional certification and food safety training for future food technologists.
During the three-day course, the following modules were covered:
Day 1 (23.10.2025):FoSTaC (Level 1 & 2) – Basics of Food Safety, GMP, GHP, and Personal Hygiene.
Day 2 (24.10.2025):HACCP (Level 3) – Hazard Analysis, CCP identification, and implementation strategies.
Day 3 (25.10.2025):ISO 22000:2018 – Food Safety Management Systems, documentation, and auditing procedures.
The sessions were highly interactive, combining lectures, case studies, and real-world examples. Students actively participated, enhancing their understanding of global food safety practices and certification standards.
The certification course was coordinated by Dr. A. Allwyn Sundaraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Technology, and Ms. Sandhiya, the Student Coordinator, who together ensured the smooth execution of the program.
At the conclusion, participants received their certificates of completion, recognizing their successful participation and competence in food safety standards. The Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Management, Principal Dr. S. Manoharan, and Head of the Department Dr. P. Balamurugan for their continuous encouragement and support. Overall, the three-day certification course was a highly enriching and informative experience, empowering students with practical insights into food safety, quality assurance, and international standards compliance — vital skills for careers in the modern food industry.
