The Department of Civil Engineering, JCT College of Engineering and Technology, organized a webinar for the civil engineering students on 05 March 2026 at the JCT Seminar Hall through Google Meet. The objective of the webinar was to provide students with knowledge about modern digital tools used in quantity surveying and construction estimation.
The program commenced with a welcome address delivered by Prof.D.Arul Ganapathy, who welcomed the resource person, faculty members, and students. In his address, he highlighted the importance of learning modern software tools in civil engineering practice and encouraged students to gain practical exposure to industry-relevant technologies. The chief guest introduction was delivered by Prof.Hari G.S., who introduced the resource person Mr. Kaka Muhammed Suhaib, Managing Director of Samco Construction, Chennai. He briefed the participants about the speaker’s professional experience and his expertise in construction management and quantity surveying.
The resource person, Mr.Kaka Muhammed Suhaib, delivered an informative session on “Quantity Surveying using PlanSwift Software”. During the webinar, he explained the importance of quantity surveying in construction projects, particularly in cost estimation, material quantity calculation, and project budgeting. He also discussed how digital tools have transformed the traditional methods of quantity take-off and estimation. The speaker demonstrated the practical application of PlanSwift software, explaining how construction drawings can be imported into the software and how measurements can be taken accurately from digital plans. He illustrated the procedures for calculating quantities of building components such as concrete, brickwork, plastering, and flooring. The demonstration helped students understand how software-based quantity take-off improves accuracy, reduces manual errors, and saves time in project estimation. The webinar was highly interactive, and students actively participated in the session by raising questions regarding the software usage, industry applications, and career opportunities in quantity surveying. The resource person clarified the queries and provided valuable suggestions for students to enhance their professional skills. The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr.V.Murugesh, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, who expressed sincere gratitude to the resource person for sharing his expertise and practical knowledge with the students. He also thanked the faculty members and students for their active participation, which contributed to the success of the webinar. The webinar was highly beneficial for the students as it provided practical insights into modern estimation techniques and the use of PlanSwift software in the construction industry.
