TWO DAYS FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME on Advances in Power Electronics and Drives 29th & 30th June, 2016 Organized by DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

A two days faculty development program on “ADVANCES IN POWER ELECTRONICS AND DRIVES” was held at the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering of JCT College of Engineering and Technology, under the patronage of JCT Institutions on 29th & 30th June,2016.

The FDP aims to provide opportunities to faculty members, research scholars and post graduate students to enrich their teaching skill and research in the field of Power Electronics, electronics, Electric Drives, Simulation of Power Electronics and Drives . The Program also intends to develop the knowledge of participants for simulation with advanced software in the relevant field for inculcating learning values in students and guiding and monitoring their progress. The FDP was attended by 50 participants from faculty members of various engineering college s in and around Tamilnadu.

Prof. V.Jethose, HOD of EEE welcomed all the respected dignitaries and participants. Prof.(Dr.) G.ramesh, Principal of JCT appreciated the program organized by EEE dept in his speech. He also emphasized the benefits of such kind of resourceful activity.

Er.V.Angappan (Director of Megatech Scientific Instruments) (29.06.2016) delivered keynote address on “Power Electronics : Current status and Future prospects”. In this session participants learned about Power Electronic Controllers, SVPWM and advanced PWM techniques , DTC ,Multilevel Inverters, Grid integrated Power Converters, Power electronics applications to power system and power quality.

Mr. Rajasekeran ( R&D Head of beta Technologies)(30.06.2016) deliverd an informative lecture on Analysis of Inverter and motor control, Converter topologies for stand alone and grid connected solar PVs and Design and analysis of AC drives. Dr. Jayaprakash (Professor-EEE, Karpagam College of Engineering delivered a interactive lecture on “Challenges and advances of Power Electronics and drives for future applications”. The program ended with vote of thanks by Mr.B.Chandramouli, Asst. Prof., EEE Dept..

All the sessions were very much informative. The discussed areas are of great benefit for the participants as the topics match with the current working domain. Participants were enlightened with the most widely used advance technologies in this domain. This in turn will help in research activity and placement opportunity.
