The association of Mechanical Engineering Department was inaugurated in the seminar hall of JCT College of Engineering and Technology at 11:00 A.M on 07.08.2014. Dr.G.S.Sundararaj HOD (Mech) welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest was Dr.S.R.Devadasan Ph.D., D.Sc. Professor & Head of the Department of Production Engineering, PSG COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY, Coimbatore and delivered lecture on the topic “INNOVATION IN ENGINEERING”. Dr.G.RAMESH, the Principal presided over the function.

In his presidential address Dr.G.Ramesh, Principal stressed the importance of soft skill and experience to the students for making them efficient professional. This type of association activities will serve as a bridge between Academic and other superfluous deeds. Students should also acquire the knowledge through internet, library, and attending symposium and conference etc and should make proper use of leisure time.

The Chief Guest presented the lecture on “Innovation in Engineering” and emphasized the following: Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are accepted by the markets, governments, and the society. He mentions the Impact of innovation in services and products. He mention the examples of Futuristic products and services such as washing machines without water, Mobile phones with Bio-metric locks, Laser printer with ordinary Ink, a device that will absorb water during floods, Customized newspaper printed at home, a Building that can be build and dismantled in few hours.

He also stressed on the Capabilities of future engineering: Innovation mindedness, Skillfulness, Goal oriented, Adaptive to face the competitive situation, Keenness to understand and exploit new knowledge, technologies and manufacturing models. In his conclusion he explained the role of engineers as teachers, as Researchers and as practicing engineers.

Our II year Mechanical B students Ranjith.R.G and Nandhakumar.G presented a paper on the topic “Energy Management”. In their presentation students explained how we can manage the energy with effective and efficient way. Energy management saves money and makes buildings more comfortable, healthy, and safe. And they explained about the National ENERGY STAR® US based Program. They also explained How to save energy in a college, Industries with various practical examples and applications.
